So why is CBD all the hype?
CBD, which is short for Cannabidiol, is the most researched cannabinoid by scientists and pharmacologists after the infamous THC compound. The Cannabis plant contains more than 115 different cannabinoids, some of which haven’t even been discovered yet. The discovery of the beneficial properties of CBD has taken the Cannabis industry to new heights, paving new avenues for complimenting industries and whatnot.
The legalization of Cannabis in states across the US has had far-reaching outcomes both in terms of sales of CBD related products and de-stigmatization of the plant itself. For centuries this herbalicious plant has been under heavy fire due to its potential for abuse and dependency.
The declassification of hemp from controlled substances came into effect after the Farm Bill 2018 was passed in the US. This contributed a lot towards suppressing the anti-cannabis sentiment that existed among the masses.
No doubt, Cannabis is the most common drug of abuse across the globe but this certainly does not nullify its medicinal and therapeutic benefits.
What is CBD?
CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant.
Being non-psychoactive means it does not get you “high”. That Euphoric property is credited to THC alone whereas pure, isolated CBD contains trace to null amounts of THC. (Full-Spectrum CBD, although, may contain some amount of THC).
“Officially” discovered in (1940) the midst of the Second World War, this cannabinoid is insoluble in water and accounts for 40% of cannabinoids found in the blithe plant of mary jane.
CBD Usage and Products:
CBD comes in many shapes and forms. You can eat it, smoke it, vape it, chew it, inject it, apply it, drink it, swallow it, bathe in it, or attach it!
Yes! You can do a lot based on your personal preference of consumption because CBD is available in the form of CBD edibles (gummies, cookies, capsules, chocolates, sauces), CBD infused foods and drinks, CBD bath bombs, CBD IVs, CBD patches, CBD vapes, CBD makeup/skincare products, and CBD oil.
Here we’d like to elaborate on some of the countless CBD usages and benefits.
Broadly, CBD is used for medicinal purposes and recreation.
The medicinal benefits of CBD products (particularly CBD oil) include reducing the intensity of depression and anxiety episodes for patients. Users claim to have experienced a better mood and a productive, less anxious day after regular usage.
CBD is also being studied as a potential cure for other mental and physical disorders such as Schizophrenia, Arthritis, Cancer, Epilepsy Huntington’s disease, Alzheimer’s, etc. Also, since CBD is known to possess anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, it is being used as a painkiller (for people with bone, muscle, and other chronic pains) and a cure for sore muscles (especially after workouts).
As for recreational purposes, CBD is used for invoking a sense of well-being, promoting better health, boosting body metabolism, and regulating sleeping and eating patterns. It can be smoked, vaped, worked out with, or bathed in to enjoy its benefits.
CBD and Vaping :
Vaping CBD oil is on the rise across the US as more and more people find alternatives to smoking. Not only does vaping CBD simulate and mimic tobacco smoking it also provides the nicotine a smoker craves. With the advent of technology and growth in the cannabis industry, innovation has thrived enabling CBD producers to offer CBD to the vaping community through CBD e-liquids and other cannabis concentrates that are vape friendly.
Vapes have become fairly popular and when you see tobacco giants like Altria investing in E-Cigarette companies like Juul; it is a sure sign that vaping is the future. “Why not incorporate CBD into vaping to address the vaping community? “, thought the CBD producers and brought to life the modern CBD vape oil, CBD concentrates, and the CBD vape liquid, compatible with your vaping devices. With their divine smells and incredible tastes, you are bound to experience a clean hit every time you vape.
WHY VAPE CBD OIL?
1.Faster absorption through lungs
2. Efficient way of smoking reduces CBD wastage
3. Effects last longer
Types of CBD Vaping Products:
While you can vape raw hemp or CBD-rich cannabis strains, we would recommend you find a food-grade CBD e-juice, CBD oil, or concentrate.
Be sure to find a CBD vape oil that does not contain Propylene Glycol and instead look for a Vegetable Glycerin (VG) based CBD vape oil, because although there is some amount of Propylene Glycol in the foods that we consume, heating it (in the form of CBD vape oil) can have disastrous effects on the health.
Now that we’ve given a short insight into that, let us state the types of CBD vaping products one by one.
CBD Vape Oil/ E-juices:
CBD oil and CBD E-juices are purpose-made CBD infused vape juices. Your CBD oil/ CBD vape juice could contain isolated CBD (pure CBD) or full-spectrum CBD (other cannabinoids included). It may or may not also contain nicotine. Since many people are turning towards vaping as a way to quit cigarettes, E-juice is available in high-quality nicotine-added options as well.
CBD concentrates:
A CBD concentrate, as the name indicates, contains a very high amount of CBD. Usually used for dabbing, some people also use it for vaping purposes. Some forms of Cannabis concentrates are also fairly popular in the dabbing/vaping industry namely shatter (a glass-like concentrate), wax (also known as Butane Hash Oil or Honey Oil), and crumble (also waxy).
Why you need a Liquidizer:
So the question arises, can you vape CBD wax concentrate directly? The answer is no and yes. Some vape pens might let you vape wax as it is but we wouldn’t recommend it as it can burn out your coil faster, give a burnt taste, and damage your vaping device in the process. What you can do, however, is utilize a wax liquidizer.
A liquidizer is a food-grade, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved additive that is perfectly legal and safe for human use and converts your favorite CBD concentrate into a CBD vape juice, a better-suited partner for almost all your vaping devices.
Using a liquidizer is, by far, the best way to liquidize your wax into CBD vape juice that won’t compromise on the quality or taste of your concentrate.
Your liquidizer and wax concentrate solution can be used for up to 6 months if properly enclosed in an airtight jar and kept away from direct sunlight. The liquidizer is also kind of universal as you can use the mixture for almost all devices and is another reason you should consider using it.
How to use a liquidizer:
Using a liquidizer is simple and easy and does not take up more than 5 minutes of your time, no matter which method you use.
You need to use a 1:2 concentrate to liquidizer ratio for an ideal solution. In simple terms, you require 2 ml of liquidizer for every 1 gram of wax concentrate. If you prefer your solution a little more liquidy and want your vape juice to last longer, you can even add 3 ml of liquidizer to 1 gram of concentrate.
You can then either choose to microwave or boil (enclosed in a boilable bottle) the mixture to bind both the ingredients together.
Please note to never use less than a 1:1 concentrate to liquidizer ratio because anything less than that will not give you desirable results, will burn your coil faster, and damage your vaping device.
P.S: Yes you can use it to convert shatter into CBD vape juice too!
IS CBD VAPE OIL LEGAL?
The legal status of CBD might concern you however we would like to reaffirm that CBD Oil/ CBD vape oil is 100% legal. Let us take you through why it’s legal and what you need to know about the legal status of CBD.
Hemp, which was declassified as a controlled substance after the Farm Bill 2018 was passed; is very low on THC which is the only psychoactive cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. THC remains a controlled substance in many states across the US however more than 10 states have legalized the recreational use of marijuana as well.
CBD is sourced from Hemp which, even when a raw plant, is low in THC and high in CBD and other cannabinoids. So any CBD product, including CBD vape oil, that contains less than 0.3% THC is legal to grow, make, sell, buy and consume, etc under the federal law of the United States of America.
How to Vape CBD oil:
Moving on to the “how” part of the how-to vape CBD oil article. Vaping CBD oil is the same as vaping any normal e-juice. However, if you’re entirely new to vaping, let us take you through the basics.
If you already own a vape, you must already be familiarized with the vape parts. There is a tank, a coil, a drip tip, a battery, and a mod. You add your CBD oil in the tank.
Here’s a step by step breakdown if you own a top-fill vape/ vape pen:
- Unscrew the bottom part to take out your coil and clean it before filling it with your vape oil.
- Hold the coil horizontally and use the dropper to add vape oil into the holes. Add little by little in each hole. This is to get your coil saturated and help enhance its life.
- Now unscrew the drip tip and the top to reveal the top fill hole for the tank. Make sure your vape oil/ vape juice liquid goes inside the hole and does not spread outside to choke the airway.
- Reassemble! Now adjust the airflow and you’re ready to vape!
Here’s a breakdown if you’re using a bottom-fill kind of vape:
- Unscrew the bottom lid and pull out your coil. Remember to clean your vape coil at this stage.
- Hold the coil horizontally and use your dropper to pour in 1-2 CBD oil drops in each hole.
- Unscrew the bottom and pull it apart to expose the tank. Turn it upside down and fill it till the recommended line.
- Reassemble! Now adjust the airflow and you’re ready to vape!
Remember to give your vape/ vape pen a 2-3 min “ready-time” after you’ve filled it so that the coil can fully saturate in it and the vape oil can settle down.
Since the bioavailability of the CBD compound is much higher while vaping CBD oil as compared to consuming it via edibles, you will begin to feel its effects within minutes. CBD hits your bloodstream directly after passing through your lungs from the CBD vape and that is when you can begin to feel it hitting your system.
Ways you can Smoke CBD:
There are two ways of CBD vaping, namely MTL (Mouth-To-Lung) Method and DTL (Direct-To-Lung) Method. Both of them are just based on personal preference and are not in any way, better or inferior to the other. Now while most of the CBD vape pens are MTL you may find some DTL products available on the market as well.
The MTL vaping method mimics exactly how a cigarette is smoked. You take a drag, the vapor accumulates in your oral cavity and then you inhale it. This method is preferable among smokers as that is how a cigarette is smoked. It not only gives you a tight lung hit but also lets you decide the amount of vapor you’re comfortable with.
If we take a look at the DTL style, it was introduced through vaping devices that produced huge clouds of vapor. This method has a fairly loose draw as compared to MTL and can account for throat hits if you are a fan of them.
The Dos and Don’ts of vaping CBD Oil:
We’re compiling a list of what you should and shouldn’t do while vaping CBD oil if you want your vape/ vape pen to last long.
- When using liquidizers, try to keep a 1:3 concentrate to liquidizer ratio so that your concentrate is not vicious but rather a smooth liquid to increase your vape life.
- Clean your vape tank every time you run out of CBD e-liquid before adding the refill.
- Do not expose your vape tank to sunlight, especially when using a liquidizer because it will cause your solution to separate.
- Keep your vape upright.
- Consider buying vapes/ vape pens that come with in-built safety features. E.g there are a lot of vapes in the market that warn you of a dry hit (when the e-liquid is too low), count your puffs, give information on when the battery is full, and allow to you lock your fire button.
- Keep an eye out for a burnt coil. If you begin to notice debris collecting around it, if your flavor feels burnt, or if you’re experiencing dry hits, replace your coils to prevent overheating of your device.
- Never charge your CBD vape/ vape pen with substandard mobile or tab chargers, do not leave it charging overnight or unattended, and replace batteries if they get wet or damaged. The vape/ vape pen is an electrical device, after all, so do not risk anything.
- Store your CBD vape oil in a damp and dry place.
In the end, all that we would advise you is to have a good time but make sure that the vape/vape pens and the CBD vape juice/ CBD oil that you’re using are of superior quality so that your experience of vaping CBD is one that you’ll remember through ages!
